A NEW CHAPTER
2026.09.18
Hi everyone,
This December, THE FINALS turns three. That's three years of cashouts, best-in-class destruction and unscripted moments that no one saw coming. The game has changed a lot in that time, and plenty of what's in it today started as feedback you provided, or something we noticed from watching how you actually play.
The next season arrives on October 20, and before we reveal everything that's in it, I want to talk about what this season means for the game and why we've approached it differently this year.
Normally we work on a season-to-season cadence. This year we planned differently. Rather than treat it as three separate efforts, we set one bigger goal across the whole year, focused on improving the game we already have and pushing further on the things that define THE FINALS.
That longer runway allowed us to take on work that doesn't fit inside a three-month cycle. With it we have been able to go deeper on existing parts of the game while also investing in larger, more complex systems that need more time to get right.
And while every season brings new content, the bulk of our energy went into deepening the experience as a whole. As we approach October, now is the time when much of that work comes together.
As we get closer to the launch of the season, I want to give you a glimpse of what it means, and share an updated roadmap!
A glimpse into what's coming
PUTTING ON A BIGGER SHOW
Being a Contestant in the world's greatest game show has always been the heart of THE FINALS. Over the past few seasons, we've opened up more of the world around the game show, introducing players to characters like Dede and Jax, taking players through the Early Talent Program and bringing more stories into the game.
In October we're taking that considerably further.
Sponsors are central to it. They've grown in importance season after season, and now we want them to be a core part of your experience as a Contestant. You're competing for someone, and we want that relationship to carry identity, personality and purpose, rather than being a passive progression system.
We're also strengthening the presentation of the game show itself. We’re reworking how Contestants, teams and Arenas are introduced, as well as how the show looks, feels and unfolds while you're playing.
BUILDING BETTER ARENAS
We've had almost three years of watching you play, fight and destroy your way through our Arenas, and it's taught us a great deal about what works and where we can do better. We can also do things now, technically, that weren't open to us when we built the first maps.
For the next season we're applying those lessons to the Arenas you already know, starting with the oldest ones. We've made significant updates to lighting and materials to improve visual quality and readability, and extensive level design changes to improve how they play. We also want each Arena to have a stronger identity, with its own sponsor, colors, and character.
The result is that the Arenas you know will look better, read more clearly, and play differently.
DESTRUCTION AND DYNAMISM
Destruction and dynamism are fundamental to THE FINALS, and dynamism is about more than destruction alone. Our ambition has always been Arenas where physics, materials and forces interact in ways that feel natural and predictable, giving you the freedom to experiment, improvise and find your own way through a fight.
In October we’re pushing that a lot further, with the most significant update destruction has had since launch.
Destruction is becoming more nuanced. Today a piece of the environment is mostly either intact or broken. With the updated system, parts of a structure can stay partly attached as they come apart; so floors sag, walls lean and buildings collapse in far more varied ways. A damaged floor might sag into the floor below, giving you a moment to react and leaving a new route between floors behind it. And when a larger structure collapses, the pieces it leaves behind can become new surfaces to move and fight across.
We're strengthening knock-on effects too, so one event can trigger another and set off chain reactions through the environment. And we're taking dynamism past destruction, with smoke that now responds to forces and changes in the Arena.
With far more happening between intact and destroyed, we've also worked on visual cues and consistency, so you can better understand what's going on, see what's coming and have time to do something about it.
We've rebuilt a lot of what destruction is made of as well, so a collapse carries far more weight and noise than it used to.
MORE SOON
Not everything we've worked on is something you'll see in a screenshot. Balance and performance have both had serious attention, and there's lots of work landing during this season on each of them.
We'll start sharing a lot more in the coming weeks and as we get closer to launch on October 20. We will also reveal a new Playstyle, a new Mode, a full UI and HUD rework, and so much more, so stay tuned!
For now, thank you for playing THE FINALS, and for your love of the game.
None of this would be possible without you.
